California Makes Marijuana Wellness Industry

“By the time recreational marijuana usage became legal in California, on New Year’s Day, the government’s official permission seemed, for many Californians, like a belated, nearly irrelevant formality. Twenty-two years of ready access to medical marijuana had made casual consumption—a pull off a vape pen on the walk to dinner, post-prandial pot chocolates circulating in the living room, a THC strip tucked under the tongue—no more remarkable than an aperitif. Actually, less remarkable than a drink, because everyone knows that alcohol is bad for you (kills your stem cells, gives you cancer, makes you grouchy, paunchy, gray), whereas, increasingly, the industry is equating conscious marijuana use with sublime good health. At the edibles brand Lord Jones—the brain child of a marketing executive who popularized Lärabar, the nutrition-bar company, with the goal of “making good nutrition relevant and chic”—small-batch, high-potency confections are presented in luxurious boxes lined with golden foil and stamped with a heraldic crest. Think gold-tipped pastel-colored cocktail cigarettes, fancy candies, and, in the case of these CBD-heavy gummies, a “body high” that doesn’t affect cognition.” The New YorkerJanuary 31, 2018

Cbd Drug Can Work

“The gummies are made by Lord Jones, and Jesus, are they chic: Nine red and yellow gumdrops are gingerly inserted by some druid artisan into a box that looks like it came from Hermès, affixed with a reflective gold crest. The operation is more Tenenbaum than Cheech and Chong. That’s the whole idea: owner Cindy Capobianco’s vision was to liberate marijuana products from their stoner culture associations. (Lord Jones’s hero product, a body lotion, is prescribed mostly for sore muscles and joint pain, extending the weed demographic vastly beyond the recreational contingent.) A box of nine goes for $45, which, yes, is steep. But it also means that each gummy costs about as much as a cold brew in Manhattan—which actually isn’t bad considering that they make you feel better instead of jittery and anxious.” GQNovember 21, 2017 View Article on GQ

“Sigur Rós teamed with cannabis brand Lord Jones to create a line of cannabis-infused medicated gumdrops. The “Wild Sigurberry” limited-edition brand was inspired by the flavors of foraged Icelandic berries: wild blackberries, strawberries and blueberries. The gumdrops come in five dosage options: five, 10 and 20 milligrams of THC; the “Lord Jones’ signature 5:1 ratio CBD to THC formulation” and pure CBD. The edibles will be available as in nine-piece boxes featuring a Sigur Rós crest designed by London illustrator Andrew Rae. The THC-infused varieties will be sold through the Lord Jones website and via select California dispensaries to qualified medical marijuana patients, and the pure CBD variety is available for nationwide delivery through the Lord Jones site. To celebrate the “Wild Sigurberry” release, Sigur Rós and Lord Jones will host a “sound bath” at Hollywood’s NeueHouse on Tuesday, April 18th. Attendees will be offered “Wild Sigurberry” samples prior to the sound bath, which will feature “multimedia collaborations from the band, including moments in sound, film and VR.” Rolling StoneApril 2017 View Article on Rolling Stone

Stars are now slathering themselves with cannabis lotion

“Forget Advil: Celebrities are rubbing cannabis-infused lotion on their bodies to get through a long day. ‘Whether they’re using it on their feet before they walk down the red carpet or whether they use it for joint pain … we feel incredibly grateful and blessed that celebrities have found their own and very different kinds of relief,’ Lord Jones recently told Page Six. The company, which specializes in lotion and edibles, has been lauded by Olivia Wilde, Jessica Seinfeld, Busy Philipps, Stacy London and more. ‘Recently I did a play on Broadway for six months, and my body was wrecked,’ Wilde told the New York Times earlier this month. ‘My neck was really tight. The CBD has relaxing benefits, and the idea is to avoid using too many painkillers.’ London wrote on social media about not having to depend on medication as she recovered from spinal surgery last year. ‘I am not a fan of prescription painkillers though they were kinda unavoidable after spine surgery,’ she wrote. ‘I am so sensitive to medication the side effects were awful. But this product helped me off of them in 10 days. I never looked back.’ “ Page Six OnlineJanuary 19, 2018 View Article on Page Six
